Some more fabric

4 Aug

You may remember me mentioning that I was taking part in a Japanese fabric swap wonderfully organised by Cindy, well this week I received my package of 5″ delights:

If you want to see them in more detail go and browse the Flickr pool.  No idea what I’m going to do with them yet, but it’s really nice to have a selection of some really gorgeous and unusual fabrics.

I had a phonecall last week from Zoe who has been one of Leah’s preschool teachers this year, she had won a giveaway which was a goodie bag, it had a variety of contents one of which was a bag of fabric pieces approx 10cm x 18cm each.

Zoe doesn’t sew so kindly donated it to me!  A cute novelty selection I’ve put them in a safe place for now and am contemplating what to turn them into – thanks Zoe!

Believe it or not at the weekend we had time to pop into the local charity shops, at last I found something I’m always on the look out for:

A gorgeous floral sheet, (it was labelled as double but I wouldn’t ever want to sleep in a double bed that was narrow enough for this sheet – so it must be a single) from St Michaels or now more commonly know as Marks and Spencer.  It’s in really good condition and great quality.  Now all I need is 10 or so more of different prints so I can make a patchwork quilt out of vintage sheets!  We always had plain sheets as children but I did have some duvet covers with this sort of print on, Mum thinks she has them somewhere but has not yet found them!

I’ve also taken part in another scrap swap organised by Ali at Very Berry Handmade, here is what I sent my partner Jane:

A selection of fabric scraps, some I’ve hoarded for years, others are quite new, I’ve made sure I have a 2.5″ square of each for Scrap Vomit purposes before I sent them off!

I made up some buttons and included a long  piece of bright pink wide ribbon (not pictured) for Jane to use however she likes!  I also made a yoyo brooch out of some vintage fabric.

Lastly I included a pile of 2.5″ or larger squares that I thought might have some use for patchworking or for applique of self cover buttons.  Jane doesn’t have a blog so I couldn’t spy on what she might like so I just picked out some things that I would be happy to receive myself!

Well, yesterday I had a lovely email from Jane saying that she had received the package and she loved the selection, she’s recently got back into sewing so is looking forward to using them.  So one happy swapper!

  1. I love fabric and always save every bit I’m lucky to come across, just need some inspiration and some time! I won some Strawberry Shortcake fabric on eBay this week, defo my next project but for what? Think I’ve done drawstring bags and cushions to death for the moment, although having said that my little one has a kind of day bed and I might have a go at making a couple of bolsters for it! x

  2. I’m so glad to hear your charms arrived! I know a few folks who are still waiting, so its nice to hear some are still making their way home.
