Zakka Style sew along: pencil case

4 May

I’ve been feeling really under the weather this week but still wanted to join in the sew along.

I was concerned that denim would be too thick to work well on this project so I resigned myself to using linen. Except that I didn’t want to use my nice new stuff, so on Tuesday morning delighting in the fact that it wasn’t pouring with rain Mathias and I took a walk up to the charity shops and found a great pair of mens 100% linen trousers!

I pulled out 2 boxes of scraps, one blue and one green and selected some fabrics. My definition of scraps is ‘a small, tiny piece of fabric that still has life left in it’ so imagine my surprise when I also found a piece big enough to line the pencil case (16.5″ long!).  Anyway it didn’t take long to make, not feeling well I opted out of embellishment unlike Kerry who hosting this week incorporated stamping and embroidery into her beautiful creation, go on take a look and enter the giveaway.

Now someone in this house has a birthday next week, he doesn’t really know what he’d like, (well nothing within our budget anyway!) so I was thinking this might work as a little gift. Having made one though I thought that maybe denim would work afterall so yesterday I made another:

Yes, more scraps from those boxes and I’m thinking that these would make great end of year teacher gifts with the addition of stitching, stamping etc!
