You may know by now that I have a bit of a thing about fabric, you may also know that Saints and Pinners an online fabric shop are in reality not far from my house, so rather than order online I’ll make an appointment to visit them and browse their lovely stock. On my first visit I bought some Lizzy House Ducks in a Row (pond) from the Red Letter Day line, it really appealed as it was quite orange and had potential for something for Leah my orange loving girl!
I used some of it to make her a purse:
And a drawstring bag, both of which are well used:
On subsequent visits I came across their last 1/2 a yard of Champion in Galosh and another 1/2 yard of Pearl Bracelet in feather.
At the end of last year I bought Noodlehead’s 241 bag pattern and a couple of weeks ago when I needed a break from quilts I cut out the pieces to make the bag. Once most of them were cut out I hesitated as there are a few different options with this bag and I wanted to be sure I made it the way I wanted it.
Following the pattern I went for the external pockets and the zip pockets option.
I also amended the strap to suit me, so rather than just a shoulder bag the strap is adjustable and I can wear it either across the body or over the shoulder. To be honest the chances of me wearing it just over the shoulder are slim, with 3 small children I generally need both hands free to manage them!
I added in a key fob which I did in the Runaround bag I made for myself last year:
I’ve discovered that this one wasn’t really long enough (but is still really useful) so this time I made the strap longer:
If you want a tutorial for this then Kerry has a great one here.
So in addition to the Lizzy House prints I used Alexander Henry Heath in Steel Grey. And do you know what? I am delighted with the result:
Partly delighted that I bought the fabric when I saw it not having a clue what I would use it for and delighted that I have a great new bag all for me – Leah is happy too because it matches hers (in part!).
