Fabric stashing

8 Feb

I’ve done a little bit of fabric buying over the last couple of months, nothing excessive (at least I didn’t think so until I got half way through this post) and only in the sales (sort of).

On Black Friday I preordered Architexture from Stash Modern Fabrics at a discounted price:

I’ve spent a fair amount of time in the last 12 months looking at architectural drawings and this appealed as soon as I saw it at the end of the summer.

And I filled the envelope with a yard of each of these, in a vague attempt to add to my small purple stash:

Stash fabrics from 'Stash Modern Fabrics'

(L-R Flea Market Fancy Fabric – Denyse Schmidt – Seedpod Stripe in Pink, Guising Halloween Fabric – Lizzy House – Jewels in Chocolate, Chelsea Collection – Windham Fabrics – Round in Purple, it is more purple than this looks!)

I won a $50 credit in the Scrappy Stash QAL at Ellison Lane Quilts to spend at Fabricworm, I didn’t spend it straight away and just before Christmas ordered a bright FQ bundle of Pearl Bracelets:

and a FQ bundle of Type by Julia Rothman, it didn’t include the clip board print but I’m not so keen on that so didn’t mind:

and filled up the envelope/spent the last dollars on a yard of sale fabric ready for next Christmas!

Next, a bundle of solids and a little bit of Flea Market Fancy from the Fat Quarter Shop in one of their 12 days of Christmas offers.  The solids were $3.50 per yard so it seemed silly not to add to my small solids collection:

Also from the FQS was a  half price FQ bundle of Super Star by Zoe Pearn for My Minds Eye, Riley Blake.  I don’t often buy fabric with a specific project in mind but this one is going to become a quilt for the Siblings Together project, I also bought extra half price yardage for backing and binding.  I’m thinking that this would be great for a teenage boy.  No idea about a pattern yet and still wondering if I can get 2 quilts out of it…

Then the evils of twitter…a friend tweeted one evening how she was waiting to collect a parcel from the local Post Office depot, she then posted a picture of what was in the parcel, I had to follow the link and discovered that Doughty’s were selling Michele D’Amores Wordplay for the small sum of £3.99 per metre!  So I soon discovered that I’d ordered a metre of most prints left:

The text fabrics are great but I’m also loving the dots/diamonds and think they’ll be wonderful for quilt binding.

A week later after following Doughty’s on twitter discovered that some prints that were previously out of stock were back in and again a metre of each arrived on my doorstep:

I have already used some of these, hoping to show you how soon.

Doughty’s offer a brilliant service and the postage was better than reasonable – highly recommended especially with the hike in shipping fees from the US.  They currently have a range of Amy Butler fabrics for £5.65 per metre, from the Midwest Modern, Daisy Chain and Love ranges and even a few pieces from the Belle and Lotus ranges.  Worth a look even if just for quilt backing.

So the lesson I have learnt today is keep quiet about fabric purchases or write about them as they arrive so that I don’t write a post which makes me look like I have an addiction!

  1. I love your purchases!! I really want some Architexture, but have to hold out for the next fabric budget!!! Completely agree with sharing as soon as you get it, I’ve kept quiet about most recent deliveries as I went a bit mad in January!!
That Super Star bundle will be great for a siblings quilt, what about making two Giant Star quilts with it?

  2. Lovely purchases, each and very one! I’m off to see if there are any Wordplay dots left! 🙂

  3. I have interrupted my fabric buying to read your post! Loving the stash building – seem to always find more time to buy fabric than there is to get down to sewing… I must correct this imbalance!

  4. ohhh I love wordplay and my architextures arrived this week too, not sure what to make with it yet, thinking bags or cushions

  5. Lovely fabric choices – I’ve had my eye on Architextures for a while, just can’t justify the hike in US postage…plus customs charges on last 3 parcels. Off to check Doughty’s. At the moment I also spend more time fabric/blog browsing than sewing….

  6. You’ve been doing well! I have stashing envy. I don’t think I’ve bought an inch of new fabric (bar stock and some very boring Kona Snow) since last August! Maybe I’ll just pop round and steal yours…
