A Lovely Year of Finishes – September

28 Sep

At the beginning of the month I showed you these 2 blocks which I made 15 months ago at FQ Retreat (if you want to know how to make them I believe you can find the instructions in Lucie Summers book):

FQ Retreat 2012: Portholes class

The plan was to make them into cushion covers for 2 of my nieces.

I put off doing anything with these until I’d been to the fabric shop to see what size inserts they had in stock. They had 14″ or 22″ so I went for the smaller size as I was making cushions for little girls.

I pulled out some Garden Friends fabric from my stash and added a 1.5″ border;

I also added a piece of wadding to both blocks to hide/protect the piecing

I then made a back, I didn’t have the energy for a invisible zip so went for a simple envelope back on both cushions:

These pictures remind me of how much I love this crazy fabric – I hope the girls do too, I made one of them a dress with it a few years ago!

So a big tick for me, I met my goal AND I sent off 2 handmade birthday gifts (ignoring the fact that one is more than 2 months late!).

  1. Lovely cushions and lovely blog…my first visit. I see you live in Exeter, I am from the South West and have a daughter and family not far from Exeter 🙂

  2. Both of your cushions turned out adorable! How could they not love them,especially since you made them.
