Bloggers Quilts Festival – Siblings Together Quilt

30 Oct

Welcome to my entry for the Bloggers Quilt Festival in the Large Quilt Category.

September was my month as Queen Bee for the Siblings Together Quilt bee, I asked for a 18.5 unfinished cross (details here).  I think it can be quite easy to make a quilt in feminine  colours and style so again I opted to make a more masculine quilt.  So I requested no flowers, hearts etc.

I was delighted with the blocks that sent in to me, and quickly put them together.  The green fabric to be used in the back arrived last Friday and I then spent time over the weekend basting, quilting and binding.

It’s half term holiday here this week and today we went out to Castle Drogo and took the quilt with us for a photo shoot:

The two blocks in the middle are quite muted which I didn’t really notice when I played with the layout, but I’m happy with how they all work together.

If you’ve seen quilts I’ve made in the past you might know I’m fond of making a large version of the front block for the back:

I used a selection of low volume prints from stash and the Kona dimensions chartreuse that I bought specially for this.

We don’t always get the most stunning autumn colours here but Tobit did manage to capture some here:

So this quilt will go off to the Siblings Together charity to be given to one of the children attending one of their camps next summer.

The charity champions, builds and strengthens relationships between brothers and sisters, aged 7 -18 years, separated by the care system. They use creative activities and skilled adult support to help the young people they work with in rebuilding their sibling relationships, supporting their broader social welfare and emotional well-being.

  1. Wow, you put it together very quickly. It looks great. I don’t have a quilt to enter in the quilt festival this year so it’s great to see one I played a small part in has been entered.

  2. I fell asleep reading you roost last night! No reflection on your writing, just a very early start as usual! The quilt looks fantastic and I love the back. XX

  3. Fabulous. I had to look hard to find my block as I couldn’t remember what I’d contributed.

  4. what a tender gift for one of those siblings. It will mean so much to them that so many people worked on something for them. Love the “boyish” colors, and the quilting!

  5. I discovered, while shopping my stash to make a ‘masculine block’ the other day that it’s quite hard to get a good variety of blues and greens without any feminine touches, well done to all!
