At last!

28 Apr

I am delighted to share with you a quilt finish today.  I made the quilt in January and it just needed to be bound and it wasn’t happening so I made it my ALYoF goal for April.

Untitled

My plan was to machine bind it.  I was planning on using a new foot, I tried and failed and I won’t bore you with the details but I will tell you that I spent some lovely hours in the park and on the sofa hand stitching the binding on!

This quilt started off as leftovers from a quilt I made for my eldest brother in 2013:

Triangular Curious Nature

I didn’t have quite enough fabric to make another quilt but it seemed a shame to waste the pile of triangles, so I asked the lovely people of IG and Trudi, Jo, Nicky, Catrin and Amanda all kindly sent me fabric (so much so that another quilt is almost finished) and I cut and stitched it all together.

I love how different these 2 quilts look, fabrics are all from the same line but there are different mixes of them and it creates a whole different look.

I quilted either side of each seam line using Aurifil 2310 50 wt:

The backing fabric is Modern Folkloric grey chevrons by The Henley Studio for Makower UK.  I bought it at a bargain price (3 metres for less than £10) I should have bought more because 3 metres wasn’t quite enough.  I used the left over half triangles and pieced them into a line and added them in to make it wide enough – yes I was only 3″ short of fabric!

There was no choice but to go with a scrappy binding but I do think that scrappy bindings are my favourite!

So this is another quilt finished for Siblings Together, quilt number 47 in fact! We are nearly half way to our target of 100 for the summer camps!  If you would like to get involved and make a quilt or help to finish one off please do get in touch.  If you would like to join a bee making quilts for Siblings Together then that would be wonderful too.  Leave a comment below and I’ll get back to you with more information.

  1. Fabulous quilt.
I bought the same fabric for my ST bee quilt and I think I also only got 3 metres, might not be enough either .
