Number one of my 2nd quarter FAL list was a pair of City Gym Shorts for Leah; she had chosen fabric but that was as far as I had got:
A couple of weeks ago Bethan asked if she could have some pyjama shorts and was happy with the idea of City Gym shorts in flannel. This spurred me on to get the pattern out from last year and to make a couple of pairs:
Last years pair for Leah were made in a age 6/7 and they still fit her fine so these are also that size:
I made the same size as last year for Bethan too, age 10:
I used the same fabric for the front and back of these, it’s from a large piece I bought last year at the car boot sale. Ready made bias binding off the roll for these made the construction much quicker.
When Leah saw these she asked if I could cut her pyjama trousers down into shorts, I decided that as I had plenty of that particular flannel left I would use that and make another pair rather than cut those off:
I’m not sure what went on when I cut these but I appear to have a pattern matching fail! But she’s only wearing to bed so no one is too bothered!
If you’ve not made a pair of these yet I highly recommend you get on and do it. The pattern is simple and clear, if you use 2 different fabrics you can get away with using less than 2 FQ’s for the front and back pieces. My girls love these shorts and the pairs I made last year and if you didn’t know they come in a adult sizes too.
So 2 happy girls, 3 pairs of city gym shorts rather than one and one tick off the FAL list!

Super cute!! Even though I certainly don’t have the legs for shorts I still want some of these!
I didn’t realise (even though I’d been to the page before) that the shorts came in women’s sizes too! May have to give these a try sometime
