Triangles and hexies

14 Jul

I love a good scrappy project. Last week Leah had a birthday party of a good friend to go to. I wanted to make something lovely for the birthday girl but I wanted to do something a bit different.

Leah said that her friend would probably like a pencil case so she and I had a look in my sewing books online for something that might fit the bill.

We came across this tutorial for a triangular pencil case and Leah was set on that.

I had some scraps of linen from some trousers I repurposed that were just big enough.

The pieces on the sides are just 3″x 2.25″ so we rummaged through scraps and Leah picked out all the fabrics; I think they are all from a Japanese fabric charm swap that I joined in with a few years ago, I’ve used a lot of the charms in fussy cut projects and these are the leftovers!

I made a teeny hexagon for the zip pull, it’s just 0.5″ and made from more scraps!

This project was a good lesson in reading through a pattern first, when I got around to inserting the zip I realised that the lining had to be hand sewn in! After I’d got over the shock I got on with it and it really didn’t take long and even if I say so myself it was pretty neat.

I think this is another fairly quick make I can add to the list for birthday gifts.

  1. Dan has just been invited to a party on Saturday so your timing in posting this is genius!! Pencil case it is (and a girly one at that – yay)! Love those bears 🙂

  2. It looks fab – the shape makes it a bit different. I recognise some of those fabrics from the Japanese charm swap – including the one I sent in!
