Cosy scissors

8 Dec

I struggle to throw away scraps, these are from binding that I made for Siblings Together quilts and scraps from a bee block for the same cause:

UntitledThey were stored in a bag for a while, I trimmed them down to 1.5″ square and stitched them together: Untitled

So the plan was to turn these into a scissor cozy using this great tutorial.  It came together really well, I topstitched the zip in place which wasn’t in the tutorial but it worked fine.

The only problem was that the cosy was slightly to small for my large fabric scissors! Untitled Fortunately I have 3 different sizes of paper scissors and they all fit in there at once!

UntitledSo of course I needed to make another slightly larger one, I printed the pattern off at 110% hoping that that would be big enough. I used most of the Sew Cherry scraps that I have left: FullSizeRender I love how this has turned out:

It’s big enough for my large scissors and pinking shears but doesn’t look much bigger than the original cosy.

I then decided this would make a great Christmas present for my mum, so using left over Tule hexies (I really think this is the last of them!) I made one for her:

I used Tule on the inside too:

That’s the way it goes sometimes when you have a FQ bundle of fabric for a quilt; the ‘scraps’ can go on forever!

This was on my 4th quarter finish along list so I’ll be linking up when the time comes.

  1. Wow Mary these are very cute! Still working on that Welsh Blanket but maybe I’ll have to make a few of these when I’m done! Thank you for linking up to #scraptastictuesday!

  2. This is a great use of scraps. I need to make some of these. I think it would make me actually put away my scissors instead of losing them in piles of other things. Thanks for sharing.

  3. What a great use for leftovers. I have a whole bin of leftover HST from a project. Thanks for sharing and giving me an idea. Visiting as part of the 2015 FAL Cheerleading Team. Thanks for participating.
