A personalised birthday cushion

7 Jun

It appears that there’s a trend here for gifting cushions for birthdays this year.  I’ve made 3 in the last month and there is another in the works.  I blogged about the shirts cushion I made for Tobi already so this post is to share the next one.

Leah had a birthday party for a good friend; I feel like the children are getting to a stage where they don’t want more toys to clutter their rooms so I thought I’d make him a cushion with his initial on, something that can be used for (hopefully) years to come:

R's cushionI used the brilliant Just My Type uppercase pattern by Quiet Play.  I made this a month ago so I can’t quite remember what size I printed the pattern at but I think it was 160% which made a 8″ block.

I used my stash of Summerville for this cushion; Reuben’s favourite colour according to Leah is green so that’s what she chose.  I pulled out rocket blue a Freespirit solid for the border and binding.

I quilted around the letter and the borders with Aurifil 2870 in 28 weight which helps to add definition to the cushion.

Back of R's cushionI sneaked a bit of red alphabet on the back in the form of the zip cover; this was fun to make and was well received by the birthday boy.

We’ve got a birthday in this house tomorrow, she won’t be getting a cushion but there is a handmade gift to give…
