Kaleidoscope

2 Oct

It feels fairly miraculous that I have finished another item on my FAL quarter 3 list.  I pulled this selection of fabric

The grey is a pair of linen trousers belonging to my husband that were no longer fit for purpose but had plenty of usable fabric in them.

The paper templates I drew up myself in Touchdraw when I made my a table runner.

The end result:

Kaleidoscope cushionI quilted this with Aurifil 1104 50 weight which ‘pops’ nicely on the grey linen: Cushions

You may notice another cushion trying to photo bomb above so here it is:

Free hand paper piecing cushionI made this block at a South West Modern Quilt Guild meeting at which the lovely Jo Avery came and taught her free hand foundation paper piecing technique.  This is known as the sea urchin block.  Rather than plan to make more for a quilt I turned it in to a cushion cover for the sofa in the kitchen. Cushions

I also quilted this with the Aurifl I used above and 8552 which is wool 12 weight: CushionsIt was really fascinating to learn this free hand technique and I really want to try the pickle dish block – I just need to schedule in some time. I linked an IG photo up from A&E on Saturday night before the FAL closed as this blog post was only half written at the time!

And for the record here are the backsides, all neat and tidy zip closures: Cushion backs
