Last month Kat put a call out for pattern testers and I volunteered possibly swayed by the photo of her gorgeous cushion/pillow
Kat sent me the pattern through as a pdf and I had a quick read through. As you may know I’ve made cushion covers before so like to think I know what I’m doing! But if I didn’t have a clue this would definitely be a pattern for me. I’ve not seen the finalised pattern but I don’t think it will be too different from the one I saw. It was very clear, the instructions made sense, and Kat explains why particular steps are necessary which I thought was a great touch especially for beginners.
So after spending an age looking at fabrics in my stash I made a selection and following Kat’s pattern made this:
I mostly followed Kat’s suggestions, the pattern ‘allows’ you to make the strips whatever size you want.
(Fabrics: All from Amy Butlers Belle range)
The back is a simple envelope style, so no zip, button or ties to stress about! Please excuse the wrinkles on the back, I didn’t have time/energy to go and buy a 15″ cushion insert so just used a cushion off the sofa which was a little big!
A bonus at the end of the pattern is the inclusion of a formula to work out fabric required for different size covers. All in all a great pattern, simple and straightforward suitable for beginners upwards!
So, there we have it, another cushion to be sat on, thrown around, Mathias has a favourite game at the moment of making a pile of cushions and falling on it calling it ‘bouncy castle’.
If you are quick Kat is giving away a free quilted cushion pattern on her blog, you have until 8pm WST this Friday to enter. Or you can buy it in her shop here.
Thanks for your generous review Mary! I really appreciate it 🙂
And thanks so much for helping me by doing the pattern testing.

Love your cushion Mary and also Kat’s. I have the very same fabric as Kat (timeless treasures I think, but I just used the tt fabric on the front and a spotty fabric on the back and trimmed with ric rac. Do you realise, you have made me spend more money!!! I have just gone and bought Kat’s three patterns – just can’t help myself.
