The unstoppable Kristy at Quiet Play put a call out again last week for pattern testers. She attached images of the blocks that she wanted testing and one of them was a digger. There is a small boy in our house who is fond of machinery especially the construction type so it was impossible to resist.
Here he is earlier this year as the building work on our house started, glued to the window watching:
Last week at the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham I bought a couple of scrap packs of Timeless Treasures Sketch from Justine at Simply Solids. I’d not used them before but they were great for the sky and I’ve since used them in another paper pieced block too.
This block was not too complicated to put together, there are some teeny bits in it and it helps to pay attention to which fabric/colour to stitch where. I did a little bit of unpicking but nothing too drastic.
If I make this block again I think I might use a brown fabric at the top of the bucket to make it look like a scoop of mud…
For now it’s hanging on the wall of my sewing space waiting my attention, it’s an 8″ block and I’m not yet sure what I’ll do with it, a cushion for Mathias maybe.
The pattern I believe will be available in Kristy’s Craftsy shop by the end of the month so you can make your own.
Check out other paper pieced projects, link up your own and be in with a chance to win one of Kristy’s great patterns:
It turned out fabulously! Love sketch for paper piecing – adds some really nice texture to the block!
Love this! My girl is into these big machines too…another project to the list 🙂
It’s fab!
so cute!
This is one of my fav blocks I’ve seen in a long long time! You did an amazing job.
Perfect for the wee man :o) And sketch is great for things like skies, in fact, you’ve just reminded me how I can solve a problem I’ve been having all afternoon!
its lovely – that blue sketch is great 🙂 I recently made a pp block into a zippy pouch for my sons birthday and he loved it.
