Snowballs and scraps

10 Dec

In the Siblings Together Quilt bee it’s Hannah’s month and she asked us to make a four patch snowball block.

I made mine yesterday:

The blocks are quite simple to make but there is a little bit of waste and as I was aware that it was Scraptastic Tuesday I decided to not consign the leftovers to the bin but to stitch something with them.

The scraps are pretty small, 2 HST’s are just 2.25″ square when stitched together.  I played around with them for a few minutes wondering what to do with them and decided to make a quick zip purse.

I pulled out the shoebox containing blue scraps and pulled 2 pieces for the back and got sewing.

I admit that the lining is from stash as my scraps are generally less than 5″ in one direction.

It was really satisfying to stitch the scraps straight away and not stuff them in to a box for use ‘one day’.  I might have to try and adopt this approach more often, although I’ve no idea where this purse is destined for; maybe a niece’s Christmas gift!

  1. Well done – I might have to do something similar when I get around to those snowballs! Thanks Mary for linking up to #scraptastictuesday!

  2. I intend making a snow ball quilt soon and hadn’t even thought about the waste bits or what I could use them for. I’m going larger than yours so I should get even bigger HST’s to play with! Love what you did with yours!

  3. Great use of those scraps in pouches. Hmm. I’ve got a lot of similar triangle scraps. This is a good idea for them.

  4. cute!! love that fabric in the lining. but mainly that you made something so useful and so cute so quickly out of your other project!
