I started the quarter with this almost complete quilt top:
I added some narrow borders and talked to Leah about the backing; she decided that she would like a large fox on the back, like Mathias has a large whale on the back of his whale quilt:
So I had a play around and came up with this:
I just had enough of the backing fabric to border the block but it took a bit of maths and piecing to do it, this is a close up of the fabric:Leah then made a request for woodgrain quilting! So I had a bit of a practice and decided that I could probably manage it. It turned out ok; by the end of the quilt I’d got a bit more of a handle of the FMQ and weight of the quilt. We took it on holiday partly because Leah is delighted with it and wanted to take it but also so we could take some photo’s. We went to Coed Y Brenin and had a glorious day walking in the forest and playing in one of the best children’s playgrounds I’ve ever seen. Just below the playground was a tree with the perfect branch for draping a quilt on: But of course it’s impossible to do it and see the whole quilt so I found a handy tree stump to stand on: Leah chose the fabrics and the layout for this and in this photo I can see how her design works, bright at the top and paler at the bottom – clever girl! I think this is my favourite fox, the Kaffe Fasset fox with glasses: I bound the quilt with fabrics left over from the quilt top; it’s scrappy and rainbow coloured:
One happy customer and a tick off my 3rd quarter FAL list.

This is amazing! I’m not sure if I like the front or the back better! A beautiful finish!
