If you’ve been around a while you may well be aware of my love of vintage sheets and the fact that I held an extensive collection; over the years I have been selling off pieces through my Etsy shop and for the last 18 months or so I have found very little to add to my collection so it has dwindled considerably. However I do keep all the scraps from cutting charms and fat quarters and at the moment I have 2 large ‘charity bags’ full of scraps:
I’ve been using them to make half hexies; the pieces needed are just 2.5″ wide x 5.5″.
I’ve made 550 half hexies and I finished piecing it into a quilt top last Saturday at the South West MQG meeting:
But I still have a huge amount of scraps left! On Sunday I picked out a vintage sheet from my collection and basted the quilt top; I’m now hand quilting each hexie:
45 done this week; 180 left to do, that’s potentially going to take 4 weeks! So my chances of finishing for the 1st quarter FAL are fairly slim so for now I’m linking up with another bunch of scrappy makes.
Wow Mary that’s amazing!!! Such a beautiful quilt top and your hand stitching looks wonderful ?
This is gorgeous! It is well worth taking the time to finish this. Thanks for linking up to #scrapastictuesday
OMG I’ve got some of the exact same sheeting 😉
Such a pretty quilt! Lots of scrappy variety and your hand quilting is great!
