Juba shorts

7 Oct

This year there was plenty of dressmaking going on for everyone in the family except Tobit.  So I asked if he would like me to make him shorts and he agreed/said yes.  We picked out the Juba shorts pattern.  I already had some fabric in stock that I thought would work; a pale grey cotton linen mix:

They were a simple make.  The only modification I made was to add pockets using this tutorial because to be honest who wants shorts without pockets?

I sewed most of the seams on my overlocker for speed but also for a tidy and secure finish.  I topstitched the pockets and waistband with Aurifil 2615 12 weight which was perfect for the job.  Although when ironing these ready to photograph I did notice that a bit of the stitching has come undone so I need to do a bit of repair work.

I’m pretty sure these are not his favourite shorts but he has worn them and maybe we’ll find some fabric for another pair for next summer.

Ticking this off the list and linking up.

  1. Cute shorts…and I totally agree about the need for pockets! Where would I be without pockets? Locked out of the house, probably! On behalf of all of the whole FAL crew, congratulations on all of your FAL finishes!
