The other new dress

25 Jul

So as I mentioned in my previous post, there was another dress:

It is handmade but has also been adjusted and not very well!  The darts down the front have been increased but rather randomly, you can probably spot that in the photo so I could do with sorting those out.  But it doesn’t fit me very well, it’s too tight across the shoulders really, so not sure what I’ll do with it…

I looked at the shop labels on the dresses and saw that the date was 23/7 so it had only been put out for sale that day, again confirming that there is no harm in going in every day!

Today was the first day of the holidays, we met up with some friends this afternoon at Escot, it’s sort of a country park with adventure play ground, wild boars, birds of prey and a maze.  Anyway as usual (we go there quite often) we had a great time.  It was my dear friends birthday yesterday, she often passes on clothes her children have grown out of, recently she passed on some dresses that her mum had made for her youngest daughter, they had been well worn and were beginning to fall apart and to be honest were beyond the effort of repair.  So today we presented her with some gifts made with some of the salvaged fabrics:

A brooch, the dress was the spotty fabric and there was a trim around the bottom of the white broderie anglais fabric, I used the blue felt from my stash.

I wanted to use the broderie anglais for the strip on this Gathered Clutch purse but it was much to thin so I ended up using some left over white fabric which has a white circular print on from this quilt.  Anyway hopefully these will be pleasant reminders for her of her daughter wearing that dress!

I’m sat writing this in bed as time is short during the summer holidays but I must just mention that I’m hoping my Accuquilt Go! Baby fabric cutter will arrive in the next couple of days, I have the UPS tracking number and know it’s now in the UK!  If you ‘like’ my Facebook page you will already know that I won one of these on the Bugglebee blog.  I can’t wait to have a play.

  1. I have just made a cushion with a Go! Baby – it was great fun to have a new toy! The fabric of your dress is a wonderful colour – it seems oddly familiar to me. I am just wondering if someone had a dress like that in my past. I am sure that you will be able to unpick the darts and make something of it – if the top is too tight, perhaps a skirt?
