Quilts for Siblings Together round up

17 Jun

The other weekend I took a bag filled with 5 quilts to London, Tobi had neatly rolled them up as tight as they could go to reduce the bulk, sadly it failed to reduce the weight:

A stack of quilts for Siblings Together

So you will have already read about the Sherbet Pips quilt (here if you did miss it) that I made for this project, and here is a summary of the others:

Siblings Together: Sock Monkey label

Sock Monkeys

Quilt Stats:
Made for: Siblings Together project
Size: 53″ x 70″
Fabric: Goodnight Monkey by Erin Michael for Moda donated by Jennifer
Backing fabric: Klona Cotton Taupe donated by Abakhan
Binding: Klona Cotton Maize donated by Abakhan
Quilting: Quilted by me on my machine with straight lines either side of the seams
Batting: Hobbs Heirloom 80/20
Pattern: It probably has a name, square within a square maybe, but I made the measurements up by myself!

Boy Quilt for Siblings Together

Siblings Together: Boy label

Quilt Stats:
Made for: Siblings Together project
Size: 53″ x 62″
Fabric: a variety donated by Celtic Fusion Fabrics, including Children at Play by Sarah Jane for Michael Miller, Kaffe Fassett, Soul Garden by Carolyn Gavin, some fabric also donated by Jo
Backing fabric: Klona Cotton Taupe donated by Abakhan
Binding: scrappy with leftovers from quilt fabrics
Quilting: Quilted by me on my machine with straight lines either side of the seams
Batting: Hobbs Heirloom 80/20
Pattern: As for the Sock Monkey Quilt

These last two are ‘sibling’ quilts, made from the same bundle of fabric, but no two blocks are the same (that would have required too much brain power)

Sew Cherry 1

Sew Cherry 2

Siblings Together: Sew Cherry 1 label

Quilt Stats for both quilts:
Made for: Siblings Together project by me and a group of lovely ladies
Size: 53″ x 53″
Fabric: Sew Cherry fq bundle
Backing fabric: Klona Cotton Maize donated by Abakhan
Binding: Sew Cherry dots in red
Quilting: Quilted by me on my machine with straight lines either side of the seams
Batting: Hobbs Heirloom 80/20
Pattern: supposed to be a simple log cabin but in amongst all the chatting some blocks went askew, in the end they were all 9″ square so got sewn together like that.

So that is it, they have been delivered to the offices of the charity in London and off to new homes at the end of the summer camp.

And last but not least a list of thanks.  Thanks very much to all those who very generously donated fabric either from their personal stash or their store, thanks to Fiona at The Sewing Directory for her support and encouragement, thanks to friends who have sewed with me, thanks to friends who looked after small children so that I could sew, thanks to those of you who supported the Indiegogo fundraising campaign which covered the costs of fabric, thread and wadding almost to the exact penny.  Thanks to Lynne for kickstarting the whole project – it has been amazing.  Finally thanks to my wonderful husband who helped me work out fabric and wadding requirements, made cups of tea, gave helpful suggestions on moving blocks, took great photographs, set up the Indiegogo campaign, looked after the children and was an all round star – without him it would not have been possible.

  1. And biggest thank you of all to you for jumping in with both feet and being so amazingly generous. The one thing I regret from the hubbub and chaos of the retreat is not having had the time to see all the ST quilts properly but it’s great to see these in this post. Thank you so much. XXX

  2. Making all those quilts for Siblings Together was a very generous act by you. Thank you posting the pictures and statistics. As a new quilter [hmm, maybe quilter is overstating it somewhat!] I found all the information really interesting and useful.

  3. Beautiful quilts, and so generous of you to spend all that time to make and give them to a charitable organization. Very thoughtful of you, and all those involved.
