One of the things on my 3rd quarter finish along list was to do something with this paper pieced apple (pattern by Charise Randell from Playful Little paper-pieced projects):
Last week I decided that I would turn it into a pencil case to give as a (late) teacher gift. Considering that it was made with fabric from my scraps bin I decided to use some scraps of denim to enlarge the piece. I had a pile of denim scraps leftover from a bag I made earlier this year from a pair of old jeans.
I decided once I’d pieced the front panel that it needed a little something added. So I added a line of stitching:
It’s not usual for me to do that but I think with time on my side and a bit more thought I knew it would add to it. I used Aurifil floss 2886 that I think came in a goodie bag from Fat Quarterly Retreat a couple of years ago. And despite it not necessarily being the straightest line I love how it turned out.
I do take much satisfaction from have the right coloured zip for a project in my stash and skinny ribbon to add as a zip pull:
Another tick off my FAL list and the list of teacher gifts, only 9 more gifts left to make!
I’m linking up with Scraptastic Tuesday:
Awe, your pencil case is so cute! I would love to be the teacher that receives it.
I love apple fabric and this is even better! Great job.
Wow, nine more of these scrumptious little apples is quite ambitious… love this sweet pp block!
Lucky teacher – well worth waiting for and I love the ‘apple for the teacher’ reference! Can I start teaching your kids? Thank you for linking up to #scraptastictuesday
