It’s the end of the world (map)

22 Sep

It’s been a while since I participated in the wonderful event that is Bloggers Quilt Festival but it just so happened that I finished a quilt this week.

World Map quiltI started this project in December 2015.  I was given the kit as a birthday gift, it’s basically a template that you baste on top of a quilt sandwich and then hand quilt.UntitledThese are some of the supplies I used:UntitledI didn’t get on brilliantly with the needles and ended up using one from my needle book; the hoop has been so good at keeping the quilt stable; the thimble has protected my delicate fingers and the Thread Heaven was a freebie with the order and not used in this project but has been amazing in other hand stitching projects. Untitled It’s been a slow stitching project that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed:World Map quiltIt’s been on various holidays with us.

I’ve spent many hours on the sofa with it.

I’ve learnt a lot about hand quilting and can see how my stitching has improved with practice. I actually finished the quilting a number of weeks ago but only this week did I have time and space to bind it and finish.  A few years ago I bought 2 lovely map pillowcases from the charity shop, one was a little bit holey so I decided to use that for binding: World Map quilt
I’m really pleased to have this finished and need to decide where to hang it in our home.  For my birthday last year I received the Haptic Lab constellation kit so that may be the next slow stitching project.

This was on my 3rd quarter FAL list and I am so delighted to be able to tick it off my list at last.
