I don’t know why it took me so long to get on and make this but it’s been on my list since December and it took me a short time to actually cut and sew it this week.
The pattern is the Rowan Tee by Titchy Threads and I’ve made this version of the pattern once before for Leah; this one is in age 10:
Leah chose the fabrics from the Fabricworm sale, the fabrics are both by Jay-Cyn Designs for Birch Organic Fabrics, Bear Camp, Bear Hike Orange and Elk Grove, Skinny Chevron Pool.
I used my ‘normal’ machine and my overlocker for this. I used a twin needle for topstitching and really like the professional look this gives to the garment.
Leah has worn this ever since I finished it 2 days ago so I’m counting it a success; less happily she has managed to ‘pop’ some of the topstitching on the hem of the sleeve – any tips on how to prevent this would be gratefully received.

I like her colour choice. to answer your question: rather than fit her up with hand-cuffs (just kidding!) I think maybe a really stretchy stitch like the serpentine stitch (check the user manual) can manage the strain better. Other than that a zig-zag stitch has more give.
That should be … more give than a straight stitch – but less than the serpentine which is used when sewing bras!
It looks great on her! I was going to suggest a zigzag or stretch stitch for the cuffs, too.
I would definitely say that she is in love with her new top. Great combination of colors and prints. I also like the method you chose to display your photos. ????
