I have a few catch up posts to write about things that I made last year and still haven’t got round to sharing here!
In September my friend Christy from 6th form college days celebrated a big birthday and I wanted to make her something a little special. Eventually I decided to use Kelly’s awesome Goosing Around pattern from issue 6 of Love Patchwork and Quilting. I rummaged through my scrap boxes and pulled out a rainbow of colours, for the background I decided to use a linen skirt from the charity shop! Christy is a bit of a thrifter so I knew she would approve.
It was quite simple to sew up and by the end of the morning I had this:
(please excuse the blurry phone photo)
It was at this point that I noticed a slight mark on the linen fabric. I’d bought the skirt at a knock down price because there was a mark on it, I washed it and the mark disappeared or so I thought. The mark was hardly noticeable and because the colour of the linen isn’t solid I struggled to work out how noticeable it was so I just ignored it.
A quick consult on instagram over whether to quilt it in black or off white and the quilting was done too.
I used a gorgeous rainbow stripe for the backing:
And then I decided that the mark was bothering me and I really couldn’t send it as a gift even though it was almost impossible to spot!
So I made another one!
I had almost enough of the same scraps, if you can be bothered you can play spot the difference if you like. Now Christy and I, despite being miles apart have matchy, matchy cushion covers!
If you’re feeling inspired to paper piece your own geese check out Kelly’s pattern shop here for a number of brilliant variations on the theme.
Linking up with Nicky and Leanne:
Brilliant – both of them! Nice to have your own, so many times we just make for others….thanks for linking up Mary
Wow! Both of those are gorgeous pillows and how fun that you both get one!
Such a pretty cushions! Well done.
I have this pattern and have wanted to make something with it for quite some time. This pillow is wonderful! I would love for you to share your scrappy projects on Oh Scrap!
I love these cushions – can’t quite believe you made a second one when the mark on the first is so hard to find that I still haven’t spotted it!
You’re such an awesome friend! What a super idea for a big birthday – and you were so right to go for the white quilting. Love that you’re cushion twins too 🙂
These are gorgeous and O love the stripy backing too 🙂
I can’t see anything wrong with the first one! What a dedicated friend you are! Beautiful cushions M! Jxo
You made two?! Oh my goodness, I really wouldn’t have noticed. I’m always dazzled by the complexity of it and spend ages looking at how it might’ve been constructed. I love rainbows so it’s just perfect for me and saves my saggy spine on a daily basis. The only problem I have with it is keeping W from stealing it! Many thanks once again, it was a fabulous surprise and makes me smile every time I see it. Xx
Really lovely cushion! Love that pattern with those geese in a circle.:)
I just love flying geese circles, and your pillow is so pretty.
I love the cushions. I love making this pattern and the backing fabric is perfect. A lovely gift for her and for you too.
Tell the truth – there is no mark is there? You just wanted an excuse to keep it for yourself!
