Today I had a real need to sew, I’ve had a little idea swirling around in my head this week but I’ve been busy with other things so it had to wait. It centred around applique but not the usual applique I do of stitching one piece of fabric on top of another, but reverse applique. So, stitching a piece of fabric underneath and cutting out the piece on top so that it can show through! Does that make sense? Here it the finished project which might help you understand what I’m on about!:
Being the sort of person who is unable to throw away even the tiniest piece of fabric…I kept the circles I cut out from the front and stitched them to the back – so not reverse applique here but normal!
And here is a peek of the lining.
So this little project is one way to use up fabric scraps, another way to get through some of the denim mountain and inspiration for make-up/cosmetic purses/bags if I use some of my lovely laminated cottons. I didn’t follow a pattern just made it up as I went along although there are probably plenty of zippered purse tutorials out there that you could follow to come up with something similar. For my next one I will make a few adjustments but generally I’m really pleased with how it turned out – what do you think?
Oh and in case you were wondering…the soup in the post? I had a little gift from Riley Blake a rolie polie of one of their new ranges Alphabet Soup (boy) by Zoe Pearns Designs for My Minds Eye. A rolie polie is a roll of strips 2.5″ wide by 42″ long, one strip of each fabric in the range. It is lovely, I’m already considering my options on this one! Here’s a little taste:
