You may remember last week I mentioned that our little boy is about to celebrate his 2nd birthday and I was asking for inspiration for something to sew. I have a lovely new book called ‘Sewing for Boys’ but not yet the time or inclination to sit down and study it and then choose what to sew, so that will wait for now but I’m sure it will be very useful.
I have had this stack of great fabrics in my stash for at least a year:
I’ve used little bits of pieces of it here and there:
And I thought it was about time I used up some more of it.
A while ago I saw a lovely cushion (pillow) made by Katy of I’m a ginger monkey, she used a Go! Baby cutter so I put it to the back of my mind as the thought of cutting out a pile of those shapes by hand did not appeal. However little did I know that I would win my very own Go! Baby. So yesterday afternoon while still thinking about a boys birthday and eyeing up that stack of fabrics I remembered that tutorial and decided to give it a go.
The girls were keen to help with the cutting, all they needed to do was wind the handle and promptly there was a pile of tumblers all ready to be sewn.
So, in amongst a trip to the park, Bethan learning to rollerblade and all the other activities small children are involved in I managed to come up with this:
On reflection I think I should have gone for a plainer border, but this was to hand and I didn’t have anything plain that would have worked and I wanted to get it done!
Now I just need to find a 20″ cushion insert and an invisible zip. The tutorial has an envelope back but I’ve decided I’d prefer a zip. Hopefully I’ll have it finished by Wednesday.
And just so you know on this glorious sunny October Monday morning I’m writing this in the kitchen inhaling the delicious smell of our Christmas cake baking! It’s late for me, I normally get it made in September but life got in the way.
Linking up…
Cute cushion, sure he’ll have fun with it
Aww…awesome! It’s great Mary!
Very cute! I used that line of fabrics in our youngest son’s room. So great for little boys! I may have to make him a new pillow now after seeing this!
That is a beautiful pillow! I also adore thos epants with the bum with the little cars on it. So cute. Thanks for the nice words on my new fabric!
