Last weekend we had a family wedding to attend. I had sorted outfits for everyone but Tobit (he’s old enough to sort himself!) when I got to thinking that I didn’t have a suitable bag for tissues, keys, lipgloss, plasters and any other things that I might need to have to hand.
So on Friday morning I had a quick search through my fabric stash and pulled out some scraps of Echino camera fabric that I thought would do for a frame purse:
So using a pattern I made up last year I checked that I had enough fabric, only to discover that it wasn’t. Not to be defeated I pulled out some other fabric that I could add to make it work.
I like selvedges and especially the Echino ones so added a strip of fabric to the end under the selvedge to make each side of the purse big enough, you can see it here:
It felt good to make the most of the camera fabric and to use it on something for me.
The inside is made using some of the lovely tape measure fabric that I had for my birthday last year:
The purse came together pretty easily despite the fact that I had 3 children at home with me sitting at the dining room table (in the living room!) colouring and drawing! The glueing bit was fine too, although there was a tricky moment when I was glueing and Tobit was siliconing tiles in the new downstairs bathroom and a small child needed help!
This brings me nicely on to the fact that I’m teaching a workshop next Tuesday 11th June 7pm-9pm at Arrietty on making a frame purse, so if you’re local and you’d like to have a go please call the shop to book a space (01392 276215). Class cost £25, bring your own fabric (quilting cotton), sewing machine and I’ll provide the frame and glue.
Cute pouch M! And it goes perfectly with your dress! Hope the class goes well. Jxo
Really wish I was local as I’d love to learn how to make them! Hope it goes well.
