Sunday Stash #56

10 Apr

So you may have seen that I kicked myself into gear on my ‘Sewing with Knits’ adventure; while on a quick trip to visit a friend and pick up a ‘new’ bike for my boy we popped into the local fabric shop and I bought 1.5 metres of this stripy jersey knit.  It was the best thing they had by way of knits.

It’s a tricky one shopping for knits when you don’t really know what you’re looking for and none of the bolts have the fabric content labelled on them and staff don’t know the answers.  Anyway this wasn’t really a stash purchase as I’ve already made 2 tops with it; we’ve photographed them today (in the gale force wind) so there should be a blog post later in the week.

As you can see I’ve also bought needles (from Exeter Sewing Machine Company)  – yes life really is that rock n’ roll!  I used my overlocker for sewing the knit tops but thought it wise to get some jersey needles for when I want to topstitch neckbands down.

When I was quilting the whale quilt earlier in the year I used a 12 weight Aurifil thread and found it broke a couple of times; my IG helpers told me I should probably used a topstitch needle to avoid that issue – so I’m all prepared for next time.

I had a fabric delivery this week; yards of Moda Grunge from Fat Quarter Shop:

It was basic of the month in March and totally met the criteria for my next Welsh Blanket quilt, I did try to find them in the UK but no one had the right colour and quantities:

Top right: Gris Fonce 5.5 yards, bottom left: Grey Couture 1.5 yards.

I am so pleased with these blues; top right is Sky 1 yard and bottom left is half a yard of Sapphire.blue grunge
I’m not sure the photo’s do them justice but they are pretty delicious.  My new patten is planned out and looks like this:

I’ve done all the maths, I just need to get cutting, stitching and writing, if any one fancies pattern testing for me when it’s ready please get in touch (and if you want a copy of my latest pattern St David’s Cross it’s now for sale).

That’s all for today I’m off to link up:

  1. I LOVE those blues! Gorgeous stash additions! As for the needles, sometimes you just have to get the basics. I’ve realized that having the right, fresh needle often makes all the difference!
