Wow it’s been a busy week, today is the first time I’ve had any peace and quiet to sit down and write. It’s Thursday rather than Tuesday but I still have scrappiness to share.
The Bee Blessed block for this month is the Bento Box and when I saw it I felt sure that I’d have plenty of scraps to make this:
The tutorial is found at Film in the Fridge, I checked out the strips needed for this and rummaged through my scraps boxes. I was very surprised to discover that I didn’t have many strips that were long enough for each section! So it took a while to come up with the fabrics above; you can see that the outer border is actually pieced from a few pieces of fabric to make them long enough!
If you’ve not come across this block before then you should check out the tutorial because this is not actually the finished block; it will be quartered and each quarter will be then sewn together with 3 quarters from other contributors blocks. I can’t wait to see how it turns out.
What have I learnt from this then? leave scrappy strips untrimmed when consigning them to the scraps bin!
So why not have a rummage through your scraps and see if you have enough to make a block.

Lovely block, Mary; I know what you mean about needing longer strips, I used a lot of binding leftovers recently but, of course, they’re only narrow strips. Great to use up scraps, though – thanks for sharing, I will go and have a look at the tutorial 🙂
Yes joining strips is the really scrappy way to do it! Brilliant block Mary. Thank you for linking up to #scraptastictuesday
