Happy New Year and all that. I’m not one for writing a reflection on the year but there will be a couple of catch up posts of finished projects coming up, including this catch up post of fabric that arrived before Christmas.
I won a $25 gift certificate to spend at Fat Quarter Shop from Sew Mama Sew.
Not having any spare cash I thought I would sit on the winnings until I had some money to spend. Then I realised that I needed 1/2 yard of black fabric for a quilt I had planned. So I had a quick look at Fat Quarter Shop and Kona Black was on sale at $4.89 per yard. I worked out that I could order 4 yards of Kona on sale for less than $20 and therefore keeping the shipping at $13. Ordering more means a shipping charge of $24 which was almost the value of the certificate!
So I hunted around the Kona’s on sale and picked out 1/2 yard cuts of these greens:
l-r Cactus, Kiwi, Lime and Emerald
I’m guessing that maybe the green and reds were on sale because the Christmas making rush was over?
l-r Tomato, Cardinal and Black (I think, although the reds could be the other way round)
I’ve started working on a Preppy the Whale quilt with my 6yr old and did all the cutting of the black for this project, I discovered that I had enough black in my stash for the bits that I needed! That’s maybe what happens when you deviate from the pattern! I had less than a FQ of black and cut mouths and eyes for 48 whales from it. Never mind it now means that I have a yard of black for something else when I need it. Aside from the fact that I realised too late that I didn’t need that yard of fabric I love being a bargain hunter and getting 4 yards of fabric for just $7.59! That’s it for now though no more fabric shopping for a while (unless someone wants to send me a gift certificate).
Do I have a plan for the reds and greens? No, but my stash has very little red in it so they have helped that situation and I’m happy to have a better variety of greens to choose from.
I’m linking up with:
There is nothing like a great deal on fabric! It really is hard to resist, don’t you think?! Plus, how fun to win a gift certificate! Great way to start the New Year!!
I was tempted by the sale on red and green solids, too – but without a gift certificate I still couldn’t justify it. 😉 I thought the same thing about the Christmas rush being over.
Congrats on the gift certificate! Love the greens you have added!
I am not yet a solid fabric convert, but I like your variety in green tones. Best of luck with all those whales!
You got good value for money with your voucher!
