Dress a Girl Around the World

9 Mar

I have a fairly long list of blog subscriptions that fill my Google reader each day and on Monday night up popped this post that caught my attention and inspired me even at such a late hour to print off the pattern and search out some lengths of fabric.  So what is it?   Imagine a world where every little girl owned at least one dress… a campaign to make that happen.  So having 2 gorgeous girls who sometimes love to wear dresses I felt I could get involved and having been cutting and sewing in every free moment (not that many with a toddler and an unexpectedly sick 3yr old – actually most sickness is unexpected but with her we can predict it on most car journey’s!).

I’ve also asked a number of online fabric stores if they’d like to help and I’ve had a brilliant response,  thanks very much to:

Jo and Fran at Saints and Pinners

Lizzet at The Fabric Loft

Courtney at Seamstar

Susan at Sewbox

They have all been very kind and generous in offering to donate fabric, so looks like I’ve got a few more dresses to go!

It’s amazing how much I can get done when I get on with it, I managed to cut and sew 3 dresses yesterday and here they are:

  2. Hello – I came across your blog site as I have been trying to find out if there is a UK branch of Dress a Girl around the World, since reading about the organization in my copy of SEW HIP magazine, I have felt really inspired to get making and to help. I even blogged about on my blog, as to encourage people who can sew and those who feel they cannot to take part, the pillow case dress is just too easy not to make and also could inspire people to make a version that could fit them if they wanted, with a sense of achievement all around. Thanks for posting – Debra – Debrafide
